Choose one cluster or shopping model instead of trying to cover every shop in a day. The shortlists below include the newly added stores alongside established stops. Use a store with confirmed hours as your starting point, call ahead where the schedule is missing, and budget time to inspect each potential purchase.

These suggested trips are not active because one or more stops need confirmed shopping hours or visit access. Their shop profiles remain available in the local directory; confirm each stop before making your own trip.

  • Third Street & First Avenue vintage

Czech Village & J Street

The DAISY and Vintage Market & Supply Co. are on 16th Avenue SW. Drop Inn Resale adds a different shopping model on J Street SW. Treat the three as a starting shortlist and check the vintage shop’s hours before setting the day.

Downtown & southeast

20 Years Awesome and Top Drawer are separate Third Street SE stops. St. Vincent de Paul, Hidden Gems and Odd Mama’s offer another southeast mix of donated goods and antiques. The early-closing thrift pair should come first when using that shortlist.

First Avenue, Marion & beyond

Fia’s Finds, Plato’s Closet, Once Upon A Child and Style Encore make a clothing resale shortlist along First Avenue. Vintage2Die4 is a separate vintage option. Grand Resale, Stuff Etc and Elegant Repeats form a broader driving trip; Mount Vernon is a separate excursion outside this city map.

Before you buy or bring items in

St. Vincent de Paul states that thrift purchases have no returns or store credits and allows electronics to be plugged in for testing. Inspect before paying and ask about pickup deadlines for items you cannot take immediately.

Consignment intake is separate from shopping. Stuff Etc Cedar Rapids lists intake Tuesday–Saturday, 10am–6pm, while retail hours are longer. Check category restrictions and the current agreement if you intend to sell to or through a shop.

A regular thrift branch and an outlet can use different selling methods. Check the specific location profile rather than assuming bins, by-weight prices or rotation times apply everywhere. Use current comparable sales and the profit calculator to set a buying limit.

For a longer corridor day, open the Iowa City and Coralville guide. Mount Vernon is a separate side trip; use the full directory and confirm shop access before adding it. Bring the inspection checklist and avoid packing the day so tightly that you skip condition checks.

At The DAISY, shopping and consignment intake have different schedules. At Elegant Repeats, bridal visits require an appointment. Read the individual profile and contact the shop for the service you need.

Before a clothing-focused trip, use That Couple Flips’ men’s jeans research guide and button-up tag-reading checklist. Watch the linked videos for item research: men’s jeans and button-up shirts. These explain clothing research; they are not reviews of the local shops.

Practical questions for this trip

Which shortlist needs the earliest start?

The southeast trip: St. Vincent closes at noon Saturday and Hidden Gems at 2pm. Visit those two before the antique mall. A later start may require removing the early-closing stops.

Does an independent shop always mean lower prices?

No. Ownership and pricing model are different questions. A curated vintage or antique shop may price for an end customer. Buy only when the exact item, condition, demand and total costs support your own margin.

Why does the Mount Vernon shortlist include shops outside this map?

The city map below filters Cedar Rapids and Marion. The explicitly labeled Mount Vernon side trip opens in the full directory with all three shops. School House Antiques and Room 222 share their building’s pin; use the floor and room details in their profiles.

Can I take items to consign during every shopping hour?

Not necessarily. Intake can have a shorter schedule, appointment requirements or temporary pauses. Check with the specific branch before bringing inventory.

FROM SOURCING TO SELLING

Use the shortlists to avoid an overpacked day

Choose one cluster

Czech Village, First Avenue clothing resale, Marion and northeast consignment are separate shortlist choices. Pick the one that fits your categories. The Mount Vernon option is explicitly a side trip outside the Cedar Rapids and Marion map.

Use the short pair when time is tight

The two-stop vintage-and-consignment option leaves more room for inspection than the longer lists. Check both shops’ schedules before you leave. A source check date records an online review; it does not mean the shop is open today.

Budget for the work after checkout

Consider cleaning, repairs, testing, photography and storage alongside fees and shipping. Record the purchase cost and condition with each item, then move a realistic batch through photos and listing review before the next sourcing trip.

Keep planning with the free profit calculator, condition-notes guide and printable sourcing checklist. Clothing sellers can also use the research library before buying.
