Start with a neighborhood and a shopping model

Jump to stores & map ↓

Wicker Park is a clothing comparison; West Town suits vintage and salvage; Lakeview and Andersonville mix resale models. North Shore options are separate driving trips. Browse all listed shops below, but choose a small shortlist before you leave.

Where to start: picks by shopping goal

Our picks match a shopping goal with the store’s format and location, using operator information, dated shopper discussions and identified review sources. This is desk research, not firsthand testing or a ranked survey. Shopper opinions are attributed below; hours, addresses and policies come from operator sources. Reviewed October 18, 2026.

For patient clothing digging: Village Discount

Choose Logan Square or Roscoe Village for a broad rack browse. Village Discount is a multi-store thrift network, rather than a selected-clothing boutique.

Tradeoff: Allow sorting and inspection time. Outlet in the name does not establish by-the-pound pricing, and a budget reputation does not establish today’s price.

Shopper reports: An October 2025 AskChicago thread recommended Village Discount for digging and budget finds; other commenters said prices had risen. A September 2026 budget-shopping thread also mentioned it.

Shopper discussion, October 2025 · Budget discussion, September 2026 · Operator locations

For home goods and nonprofit resale: Brown Elephant

Choose Northalsted for the Belmont-area trip or Andersonville for a Clark Street day. Both sell clothing and home goods; proceeds support Howard Brown Health’s LGBTQ+ healthcare.

Tradeoff: Inspect condition, measure furniture and arrange transport. An interesting vintage piece is not automatically a profitable resale purchase.

Shopper reports: Individual March 2026 Google reviews reproduced by Wanderlog praised Northalsted’s clothing, furniture and housewares. Chicago Reddit commenters also recommended Brown Elephant, with differing views on price. These are shopper experiences, not a stock list.

Dated reviews, March 2026 · Chicago shopper discussion · Operator formats and locations

For selected clothing: Crossroads Lincoln Park

Start at this network resale shop when you want selected clothing and accessories rather than a large donated-goods sort. The operator confirms the North Clark Street branch and its selling waitlist.

Tradeoff: Selected resale serves a different budget from general thrift. Check intake options separately before bringing items to sell.

Shopper reports: A commenter in the October 2025 discussion singled out Lincoln Park Crossroads for curated selection. That preference does not establish the same experience at every branch.

Wicker Park: clothing by weight and selected inventory

Happy Belated, Ragstock and Una Mae’s offer different ways to buy. Price by weight does not replace checking flaws, labels and fit. Una Mae’s also sells new merchandise. Layers is not included while its current shopping schedule remains unconfirmed.

West Town and Roscoe: furniture versus collectibles

Choose West Town for selected vintage and architectural salvage, or Roscoe Village for antiques plus general thrift. Warehouse 55 Chicago remains off these lists while its conflicting Monday schedule is unresolved. Circa Modern is a separate calendar stop on the second and fourth weekends, noon-5pm, in suite 507.

Lakeview and Andersonville: compare resale formats

Mount Sinai and Brown Elephant use nonprofit resale models. Elliott Consignment and 2nd STREET use different intake and resale formats; Woolly Mammoth specializes in antiques and oddities. Keep the shortlist focused on the categories you can inspect and price.

Oak Park: plan around a real sale date

Economy Shop is not an everyday thrift stop. Confirm a shopping date before pairing it with Animal Care League’s Harrison Street shop. Donation receiving and office hours do not establish sale-day access.

North Shore: choose one drive

Evanston/Wilmette, Northbrook and Libertyville are separate options. Forest & Found in Lake Forest is an optional stop with Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday hours, not an automatic extension of every North Shore route.

Vintage furniture and jewelry near Andersonville

District at 5430 North Clark and Rare Form at 5438 are close neighbors with different inventory. District mixes refinished mid-century furniture with new upholstery and has a rear parking lot. Rare Form combines vintage jewelry and historical objects with new gifts and stationery. Brown Elephant at 5404 adds a nonprofit resale comparison. Andersonville Antiques is mapped at its current 5234 address, but its regular hours still need confirmation.

Antique stores near Belmont and Irving Park

Antique Resources specializes in European furniture, lighting and art; Father Time focuses on watches and clocks. Their shared walk-in window is Wednesday-Saturday noon-5pm. The New Lincoln Antique Mall is a separate Irving Park drive for vendor antiques, clothing and decor, with free rear parking off Troy and Tuesday closure. Specialist shops are not evidence of thrift-level prices.

Humboldt Park and Hermosa vintage home goods

Humboldt House mixes vintage furniture with new gifts and homewares. Beyond Grandma's House carries furniture, lighting and collectibles at 2321 North Keystone, with shorter Thursday-Sunday hours. The shops are a drive apart; choose this pair for home goods rather than assuming a clothing-focused outing. Beyond Grandma's House takes item submissions by photo before intake.

Evanston vintage clothing near Davis Street

Heyday Vintage Collective adds a clothing-focused stop at 522 Davis Street, with daily noon-7pm shopping listed by Downtown Evanston. Pair it with Secret Treasures only during that shop’s Wednesday-Saturday 11am-3pm shopping window. Its Tuesday pickup/drop-off window is not shopping access.

Winnetka resale and a separate Highwood extension

Winnetka Thrift Shop at 992 Green Bay and Redefined Decor at 994 are an adjacent thrift-versus-curated-antiques comparison, Monday-Saturday 10-5. Redefined has moved from West Grand in Chicago. Old Plank has also moved out of its old Chicago location and now lists 210 Green Bay in Highwood; treat that as a longer optional North Shore drive, with Saturday closing at 4pm.

Appointment-only vintage studios

Silver Moon’s vintage bridal studio is at 4611 North Ravenswood, Suite 207, a second-floor walkup. Book before travel; its shopping and alteration windows differ. The Goody Vault in the Flat Iron building at 1579 North Milwaukee requires booking at least 24 hours ahead for Thursday-Sunday noon-6pm. Neither is a casual walk-in trip stop.

Oak Park: a sale-calendar pair

Use Economy Shop only on a confirmed public sale day, then compare Animal Care League’s 2nd Chance Shop. Economy’s office and donation schedule does not establish shopping access. ACL’s disputed postal ZIP is omitted; the Harrison Street store location is matched.

  1. Economy Shop - Oak Park, IL103 S Grove Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302
  2. Animal Care League 2nd Chance Shop - Oak Park, IL808 Harrison St, Oak Park, IL

Calendar-only trip: Economy lists announced sales 9am-3pm; ACL shops Wednesday-Sunday 11:30am-6:30pm. The shared window is 11:30am-3pm only when an announced sale falls on an ACL shopping day. Check the live calendar; do not assume every Saturday is open.

Libertyville: two nonprofit resale models

  1. Upscale Rummage - Libertyville, IL801 E Park Ave, Libertyville, IL 60048
  2. St. Vincent de Paul - Libertyville - Libertyville, IL168 Peterson Rd, Libertyville, IL

Before you buy or bring items in

These trips start with published shop details and source checks, not firsthand recommendations or measured resale margins. Pins are approximate store locations, not verified entrances.

Separate shopping from donation and consignment intake. YWCA branches and resale stores can accept goods on different schedules. Check acceptance rules before loading a car.

Bring measurements and transport plans for furniture. Village Treasure House lists all sales final. Happy Belated uses receipt-based store credit for returns; check the full policy on the profile.

A dated sale notice, appointment window or second/fourth-weekend showroom is not an everyday opening. Check holiday exceptions and the current official calendar before a special trip.

Use the profit calculator for fees and transport costs, inspect condition, and leave enough time to photograph and list what you buy. The directory and planning tools remain free.

Practical questions for this trip

How were these stores chosen?

These are researched starting picks by shopping goal, not a paid ranking or firsthand verdict. Operator sources establish format and location; dated shopper discussions add context. Check the exact item and total cost before buying.

Can I cover all these Chicago shops in one day?

Choose one neighborhood shortlist or one suburban drive. The guide covers several areas so you can compare options; it is not a timed metro-wide itinerary.

Which trip includes clothing sold by weight?

The Wicker Park list includes Happy Belated. Its operator lists a by-weight model, fitting rooms and store-credit returns. That does not establish unsorted outlet bins or wholesale inventory.

Why are some researched shops missing from shortlists?

Shops with unresolved shopping hours stay out of public trip buttons. Appointment-only studios and calendar-based sales require advance planning; donation hours do not establish shopping access.

Where can I compare independent vintage shops in Andersonville?

District and Rare Form are neighboring North Clark shops with mixed vintage and new inventory. Brown Elephant adds nonprofit resale nearby. Andersonville Antiques has a supported current address but is excluded from timed trips until regular hours are confirmed.

Which Chicago vintage shops require appointments?

Book Silver Moon’s Ravenswood bridal studio and The Goody Vault before travel. Silver Moon identifies a second-floor walkup; ask about your access needs before booking. They are separate specialist visits, not walk-in route stops.
